Doe chased by dogs
Developed on the initiative of Frederick-Augustus II of Prussia (1797-1854), the Meissen factory (Saxony) is one of the most famous. Hard porcelain has been produced there since 1708. Its productions are characterized by the delicacy of their modeling and the richness of their polychrome decoration. This figurine represents a doe attacked by dogs.
Probably made by Johann Joachim Kaendler in 1758, it is a component of a larger ensemble, initially intended to integrate a "table top". The fear of the animal contrasts with the fury of the dogs. The exuberance of the support, decorated with flowers and climbing plants, is characteristic of the Rococo style developed in Meissen.
