A set of dinnerware called "Lunch of the hunts"

Jean-François ROBERT

Great hunter, the Duke of Berry received this set from his uncle, King Louis XVIII. The service is composed of fifteen pieces (tray, milk jug, cups and saucers, sugar bowl, teapot) presented in a box. Executed at Sèvres between April 1817 and December 1818, the " lunch " is remarkable for the fineness of its figures and the nuances of its gilding. Each of the pieces is illustrated with hunting scenes (hunting, shooting, netting...). The iconography is inspired by ancient hunting treatises such as the Book of the Hunt by Gaston Phébus (1387-1389) or The Hunting by Jacques du Fouilloux (1561).

The borders are decorated with scrolls, bows and arrows. Jean-François Robert, landscape and hunting painter, is the author of the main scenes. Claude-Charles Gérard designed the watercolor decoration of the gilding by François-Antoine Boullemier and Pierre Huard, burnished by Mmes Noualhier and Mascret.
