Exemplary unicorn
The existence of the unicorn is based on the writings of ancient authors (Pliny, Aristotle...) but also on sacred texts. It is imagined as a horse or a white goat with a long spiral horn in the middle of the forehead. It is a symbol of purity and chastity. Extraordinary virtues - concentrated in its horn - are attributed to it. Reduced to powder and consumed, this curious appendage would become a powerful antidote to purify poisoned drinks. The horns - in reality the teeth of the narwhal, the unicorn of the sea - were coveted by curiosity collectors in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Maïder Fortuné proposes an enigmatic video showing a unicorn on a black background. The image gradually comes to life while a fine shower of ash gradually covers the animal. The sound of falling drops and some piano chords accompany this almost hypnotic vision. The film gives body to the strange animal to which this space is dedicated. In the tradition of the cabinet of curiosity, it associates natural curiosities and artistic representations of yesterday and today.
