O gué ma mie o gué

Laurent MILLET

This video made in 2011 by Laurent Millet presents the slow evolution of a pigeon skeleton floating on a stream. A moving form with a morbid appearance, it is reminiscent of medieval dances of death. Placed in the avifauna room, dedicated to the development of ornithology since the 18th century, this representation offers a primitive vision of the animal. Without its feathers, the bird looks like a fossil. Volatile yet common, it is now seen as a species in danger of extinction. The grayish color of the water seems to evoke the pollution which gradually destroys its natural environment.

Born in 1968, Laurent Millet is the author of an "imaginary encyclopedia". The video artist - also a photographer and visual artist - proposes a poetic and ferocious vision of the environment. Observing nature, he reinterprets its codes: swamps, undergrowth and steep paths serve as mysterious backdrops for "dream catchers" and other hybrid objects made by the artist.
